The government has decided to close unlisted social networks from today. With this decision, there has been increased interest in which social networks can now be used in Nepal.

According to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, five platforms have been listed so far, including TikTok, Viber, Nimbuz, VTalk and PopoLive.

A meeting held on Thursday with Communications Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung decided to close unlisted social networks including Facebook.

Stating that the Supreme Court order has been complied with, the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology has informed through a notice that the platforms that have not come for listing are going to be blocked from operating throughout Nepal.

Similarly, the government has stated that the networks to be closed will be reopened if they are listed.

The Cabinet meeting held on 9 Bhadra had directed the social networks operating in Nepal to be listed within a week.

The deadline had expired last night.

After the government's decision was ignored, the Ministry of Communications has decided to ban unlisted networks from operating throughout Nepal by taking a ministerial decision today.

According to a ministry source, the decision was made today on the networks that were found and listed by the Nepal Telecommunication Authority among the networks used in Nepal.

"If other such unlisted networks are found, the same process will be applied to them as soon as they are found," an official from the ministry told Online Khabar.
