TikTok launches ‘Search Guide’ to raise awareness about sexual abuse in Nepal

TikTok has launched a new ‘Search Guide’ to help users at risk of sexual abuse in Nepal.

The feature shows information that will take you to local helplines and sexual abuse support pages when searching for terms related to sexual abuse.

The Safety Center provides educational materials, how to file a complaint, and links to professional support services.

Kathmandu. TikTok has launched a new ‘Search Guide’ in Nepal from Friday. The aim of this feature is to provide timely support to users at risk of or affected by sexual abuse.

TikTok said that this feature is part of the platform’s overall safety campaign, which aims to provide a safe, supportive, and informative environment for users.

From now on, when users in Nepal search for sexual abuse terms like ‘sexual assault, abuse hotline, me too’, they will be shown a special notification that will take them to the local helpline number and the sexual abuse support page within TikTok’s Safety Center.

The page provides educational materials, how to file a complaint, and links to professional support services.

‘User safety on TikTok is our number one priority,’ said Waskito Jati, Outreach and Partnership Manager for TikTok’s ‘Trust and Safety’ department. “We know that many users turn to online platforms in difficult situations. That’s why we’re taking the initiative to showcase support options that will help direct victims to the help they need and reinforce TikTok’s zero-tolerance policy towards sexual abuse.

The Sexual Abuse Support page in the Safety Center provides information about different forms of sexual abuse, such as child sexual abuse material, misogyny, sexual harassment and non-consensual sexual activity, and how to report such material.

It encourages users to stay away from harmful content and ensures that their privacy is fully protected.

The feature also provides information about TikTok’s in-app reporting system as well as external reporting options. The page makes it easy for victims and those supporting them to find help.

It includes access to a searchable database of local organizations and international donors with expertise in victim care, trauma management and legal support.

TikTok has also prioritized hashtags and content related to healing and recovery for those seeking community support and empowerment.

TikTok said the initiative is part of its ongoing efforts to improve digital safety and user well-being through community guidelines enforcement, educational collaborations, and platform-level measures.

TikTok said it is collaborating with experts, advocacy groups, and mental health organizations to keep users safe and empowered.
